No Luck Nuna Lose On The Road
Nunawading City again conceded an early goal to their nemesis team in Noble Park United and it proved to be the killer blow. Plenty of
time on the ball and an unlucky ricochet resulted in the goal early on which Nuna custodian Richard Marnell could do nothing about. It did
however snap the Sky-Blues into action as they began to string their passes together for a number of forward thrusts but unfortunately
came to nothing. Noble Park were very skillful on the ball and on numerous occasions looked to be in control but the determined Nunawading
outfit wrestled their way back into the game only to be denied by the woodwork on no fewer than three frustrating times. Albert Gjuni
whipped in a ferocious corner that the Noble Park keeper fumbled but the rebound went wide, while on another occasion a Julian Ivanov rocket
was battered away. Late in the game Billy Wright made his substitutions and reshuffled the formation in hope of a late equaliser which
created a few more chances but still the Nunawading City boys could not get on the scoresheet and when the final whistle blew, Nunawading
lost 0-1. Next week the boys are back at Star21 Stadium to take on Sandringham City. The Sandy boys have discovered a bit of form in
recent weeks so it will be a very challenging game to see. So c'mon all you Nuna faithful, lets get down to the club this week and
cheer on the guys in what will be yet another great game. GO NUNA!!!
'Young Guns' The Future Of NCFC

These days the only way for Local Football Clubs to succeed is to either pay extreme wages to experienced players or produce a young group of
talented players. Nunawading City FC have done the latter. Never before has the club have we seen such young talent within the Senior group as
we have in 2009. After the Senior teams success in 2008 of gaining Promotion from the Provisional 1 League back into State League football and
the South East Championship Winning Under 15 Super League side, the Senior management team decided to delve into the young talent at the club and
promote them to Senior football. The combined average age of the 'Young Guns' is a staggering 16 years of age and they are Jack Hamilton, Ollie
Browning, Sam Elbaz, Jordan Cirianni & Louie Rallis. With all having made their Senior team debuts this season, and Jack nailing down a permanent
position in the best defence in the league, the future for Nunawading City FC is definitely bright. On top of this, Nunawading City FC were
proud to celebrate another player that was part of the Under 15 team in 2008, Curtis Goode, who this year moved onto greener pastures at the
Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra and also made his Joeys Under 17 Australian team debut recently in Turkey. Not to forget the rest of
the players in the Senior group, with an average age of 23 in the Senior team and 18 in the Reserves team. The excitement at Mahoneys Reserve
is getting hard to contain. All of this success has not happened overnight, but been due to some very hard work from all the people involved at
the club from the new Committee who have worked tirelessly & set high targets for the club, to all the Coaches & Managers. But in particular 2
gentlemen, the Under 16 Super League coaches John Nitros & Michael Busch. They have over the last 5 years taken a group of young players and given
them the chance to go onto becoming the Socceroos of tomorrow. In 2008 John & Michael succeeded in leading their side to the South East Super
League Championship then had 6 of their core players step up to Senior football in 2009, they have again managed to pull together another crop of
Under 16 talented players who are competing at the highest level for their age group in Victoria. With some of the players very likely to step
up to the Senior group in 2010, Billy Wright the Senior coach is very excited with the current pool of talented young players available for him to
choose from at Nunawading City FC. With the club sitting in such a comfortable position it is clear to see that the younger players have fitted
easily into Senior football. We can not forget the young talent currently coming thru from our Under 8's through to the Under 18's that will
hopefully in the future go on to play at Senior level for Nunawading City FC. The Future is Bright!
Curtis Is Doing Good Things For Joeys
Former Nunawading City junior Curtis Good has been representing the Under 17 Australian Joeys team in their recent tour
of Turkey. Curtis was part of our Under 15 Super League team that won their division last season and was offered a scholarship
to the Australian Institute Of Sport. We are very excited and proud of Curtis and we will keep an eye on his progress
throughout what could be a fantastic career. WELL DONE CURTIS!!!!!

Nuna Wins Promotion Back Into State 3
Nunawading City FC is on it's way back into the State Leagues in 2009! The boys were able to secure the point needed
on Saturday against a very gallant Fitzroy City to assure promotion. Nunawading were stunned early in the match
when Fitzroy City took the lead after 10 minutes but a super strike/volley by Nunawading midfielder Shaun Bye 5 minutes
later, squared the ledger. It was a frantic game that saw the ball going up and down the ground with regular
counter attacking football by both teams but the score was to stay that way for the duration for a 1-1 draw and promotion
to the Nuna boys! A full match report and photos for the game can be found from the main menu.

Nunawading City FC is proud to have Kirstie Marshall OAM as it's Number 1 Ticket Holder for the 2008 season. Mahoneys Road Reserve is in Kirstie's electorate of Forest Hill
and we are honoured to have her on board this year. Kirstie stepped out on the pitch looking fabulous in the Nunawading City home strip on Saturday. She lead out the referees for the
Round 1 home clash against Old Melburnians and tossed the coin with the two captains. Kirstie then had the honour of having the first "kick off" for Nunawading City's season.
The Nuna Boys won the game 2-1 and got their 2008 campaign off to a winning start. For more photos of the game go to our photo gallery.
